2017 – the year we accomplish all of our goals and become the wealthy, healthy, sexy people we have always planned on becoming, right?
92% of people fail to achieve their new years resolutions – this is a major undertone of Finding Balance. Why? Because resolutions are bullshit, but new years goals are real. Let me reiterate, goals and resolutions are not the same thing. Resolutions are the thing you talk about January 1 but have no guidelines to follow through on, and are so insubstantial it hurts. Phrases like ‘get promoted’, ‘be better at saving money’, ‘stop having FOMO’, ‘go to the gym more’, ‘eat healthier’ – those are resolutions, not goals.
Resolutions ≠ goals
It’s time to keep the new year momentum going all year. Finding Balance can be your workbook to help you write down your vision of who you want to become, and what goals are needed to get there.
Here are 12 goals for the next 12 months that don’t suck, and can actually make you a better person:
Compete in an athletic event
Set a goal to run in a city marathon (or half), do an ocean swim, try out for the Crossfit games, etc. Sign up for an event a ways out and stick to a training regime to get there!
Go on a silent meditation retreat
Take the next step in your mediation practice and go on a 7 day silent retreat. This is on our list!
Start a blog
There is something you are passionate about, we know it. Invest the $49 in a hosting service and $15 in a domain. Now that you are financially invested, it is time to become emotionally invested. Put yourself out there!
Volunteer for an organization
Big Brother, Big Sister program. Youth sports leagues. Food Shelters. There are so many organizations in need. Sign up for one, get off your ass, and volunteer!
Create a secondary source of income
Freelance your skill set, drive Uber/Lyft, or create a content marketing website. There is money out there to be had!
Travel out of the country
How much did you spend on booze the past 3 months? Cut down by 50% for a few months, and buy a flight to a foreign country. This is a great opportunity to expand your horizons and grow as an individual!
Learn a new language
You were so close to learning Spanish in high school, but haven’t spoken a word of it in years.
Find a local class or sign up for Duolingo – build those brain muscles!
Write about something you are passionate about
Maybe it’s an e-book, maybe a novel, maybe an entry for Elite Daily or Business Insider. You have it within in you to get the wheels spinning. Start writing, and see where it takes you, you’ll be surprised!
Learn to cook for yourself
This is the year you stop saying ‘I know I need to start eating healthier’ and actually do it. Buy yourself a cooking set and a slow cooker, and get to work!
Some of our favorite kitchen gadgets are:
Go to a therapist / life coach
There is absolutely nothing wrong with admitting you need some additional help in your life. A therapist can be there to help you look deep into yourself and a life coach can be there to motivate you to become the person you want to become.
Build a supplement stack
Formulate your own stack of vitamins and minerals that will help you life a resilient life. If you do not have enough understanding of how to do so, start with buying a prebuilt stack by the folks at Onnit Labs. Our favorite are:
Read 1 book / month
If you spend 20% of the time you spend watching Netflix and swiping right on Tinder actually reading, this should not be a problem. Start with one of our favorites:
